Background and Training

Dr. Lois H. Pope is the founder and former Clinical Director of Alabama Psychological Services Center where she conducted her practice in clinical and consulting psychology. Since 1993. Dr. Pope earned a Doctorate Degree in both Clinical and Social Psychology from Vanderbilt University. She completed her Doctoral Internship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Her clinical training and experience focused particularly on the various disorders of childhood and adolescence, but as a generalist, she diagnosed and treated many adults over the years. Her research was focused on understanding how personality and situational factors affect children, adolescents, and adults and contribute to the development of mental disorders. She continues to be a member of the National Register of Health Care Providers in Psychology, American Psychological Association, and Alabama Psychological Association.


Dr. Pope served the North Alabama community for more than 25 years as a psychologist providing services for children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of capacities. She specialized in psychological assessment of children, adolescents, and adults to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of various psychological, learning, developmental and neuropsychological disorders such as ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, disruptive behavior problems, and mood and personality dysfunction. Through the evaluation process, Dr. Pope diagnosed and develop treatment plans for a wide range of psychological problems to enlighten specific treatment strategies.  Typical referral sources include other treating mental health therapists, physicians, hospitals, insurance companies, businesses, churches, local and state agencies, community social service agencies, and schools.  Dr. Pope has recruited talented psychologists from the surrounding area to provide continuity of these same services as she is no longer treating patients.
